Have been looking at my old Ajin fics
The funny thing about looking at old fic, is that some of it still holds up and remains a fic I like. And some… does so less.
I was looking at my really old fic I wrote for Ajin and most of these texts I still like okay or even better. But then there are a few fics that just don’t resonate with how I view the canon anymore. Partially because some developments in the manga let things stand there in a new light. Partially because characterization went in some cases in unexpected directions.
A thing all of the super old fic I still like have in common, is that they were mainly influenced by the anime. I still like the manga a lot, but I think what plays in favour of the anime is, that it focused on bringing story and characterization to an emotional logical ending, fully aware it had limited time of only two seasons to do so and making the best out of it. Mind you, some elements that took place in season two I felt rather meh about (Takahashi and Gen defecting, why?!), but looked at as a whole I really like what this different interpretation of events added to the entire ajinverse: The manga still had time to tell the things it deemed important its own way so now there are two different versions of the verse, each with their own strengths.
